She knelt in the damp, medium, black marble room with only a lit black sandalwood scented candle. She could hear the ticking from the dark wooden grandfather clock behind her. Under her black hooded velvet cloak she wore a red silk gown. Trailing her fingers through the plush black carpet, Anna leaned back against the door. The dark wooden door reverberated with the pounding by Juanelo. "Anna, please let me in." He leaned his forehead against the door with one palm resting upon it. Underneath his black cloak he wore a black silk button down shirt and black silk trousers. Banging on the door with his closed fist, he appealed to her once again. "Please, just open the door. We can talk about it." She stood up and faced the other side of the door and whispered, "No." He sighed deeply, turning and pulling on the silver doorknob in the shape of a skull. "Anna, you know I don't want to hurt you." She reached for her silver dagger with the black runed handle. Slowly and gently she traced the tip of the dagger across the door in front of her. Tiny droplets of blood seeped through the cuts. "You've hurt me, Juanelo. You will hurt me. That is the nature of the beast." Juanelo reached for his steel sword with the black onyx dragon handle from behind his back. He stepped back and swung the sword into the door. Chips of wood scattered before him. "I did not mean to hurt you, Anna. You know that. Just open the door, love, and let me in. You will find someone else and you will leave me when that time comes." Blood slowly spilled out of the large gash made by his swordcut. Anna could feel the door twist and turn before her. Unexpected tears pooled up in her eyes. "What is this?" She wondered. Standing back for another strike, Juanelo struck the door once again. More blood flowed from a twin gash in the dark wood. "Anna, listen to me. Are you there? Speak to me." Tears ran down her face and she was trying hard not to break down. "I love him. I must really love him. Why else am I crying?" She thought. She threw her dagger at the grandfather clock and the glass face broke and shards of glass flew through the air. "Anna? What was that? What are you doing? Are you ok?" She wiped back her tears and tried to calm her bleeding heart. She whispered, "Go away." Fiddling the keyhole with his dagger, Juanelo calmly pleaded, "Anna, por favor, abre la puerta." Her tears still falling. She reached for her Browning in her right thigh holster and unlocked the safety. She took aim at the door before she unlocked it. "Come in." | ||||||||||
